Day 9:

Motor sailed across Penzance bay to Newlyn harbour. Unfortunately very little wind so no actual sailing today. Good to have local sailors Carole and John on board.

Carole, John and I left the boat to travel home. I collected the car from Plymouth before heading home. Chris traveled from Suffolk by car and then train, a nine hour journey across country to join the boat.

So for the final leg it will be just 3 aboard - Mark, Derek and Chris.

Plan is to round Land's End tomorrow, up to Padstow for a quick break and then on up to Swansea to arrive Tuesday afternoon.

Day 8:

Started out early from the award winning Mayflower marina, Plymouth. Refueled and set of west heading for Falmouth. Skipper (Mark), Derek (RYA Instructor in the making) and newly qualified pot washer, tea, coffee and jammy toast maker and general deckhand (me).

Did a bit of sailing today as the wind picked up in the afternoon (finally). No rain, plenty of sun and a 3-4 S-SW.

Falmouth Visitors Yacht Haven was busy so we had to raft up to another Moody 38.  Joined by 2 more friends/crew (John and Carole) in the evening, ready for tomorrows perilous journey across Penzance bay. Full of pirates!

Day 6 & 7:

Laid up in port (Plymouth) waiting for fresh crew to arrive and for storm to pass through.

Day 5:

Short hop today from Dartmouth to Plymouth's Mayflower marina.

2 crew members leaving the boat, some strong winds are coming in so the boat is storm bound for the moment. Skipper to remain on board to do some maintenance and wait for more crew members to arrive.

The plan today and for the next few days:

They have just set off from Dartsmouth and are heading for Plymouth. They believe they may then be storm bound until Saturday looking at the weather forecast.

Pete will be jumping ship and so the task now is to find someone to replace him. We have a couple of leads and are chasing those.

The plan could be to lay up in Plymouth until Saturday, get some new crew on board and then sail down to Falmouth or Newlyn, then start the non-stop trip around to Swansea and hopefully be there by Sunday/Monday or possibly Tuesday (if they have to stop at Padstow/Lundy).

Any takers??? - give me a ring! - Su

Day 4:

From Haslar marina, Portsmouth, the plan was to stop at Weymouth but late yesterday afternoon Mark rang to say they had sailed straight passed Portland bill and were heading for Dartmouth. The weather was good and so they thought they'd keep going.

They arrived at Dartmouth at 1:15am and tied up after a battle with the river currents.

A little problem

One of the crew members has to leave the boat on Friday and by then they should be in Falmouth. The trip around to Swansea is going to be tough with just 2 on board so we are looking for a 3rd and possibly 4th crew member.

Mum and I have been phoning around but no one's available. If you are up for the challenge give me a ring or email.me. Thanks Su

Day 3:

Another long day - 60 miles covered today and now the crew are in Portsmouth, Haslar marina. Plan is to get to Weymouth by Tuesday evening and then overnight it to Falmouth.

Day 2:

2 crew left to return to the cars, back in Burnham.

3 went on and had a wet and windy day. Parked up in Eastbourne for the night. Another 60 miles covered today.

Weather was strong wind but on the nose and some rain. A little sailing achieved today.

Day 1:

5am - set off from Burnham on Crouch and travelled through the Thames estuary and then around the corner through the Dover Straits to Dover marina.

South West Sunk swatchway was fun with the depth getting as shallow as 1.2m . But we were on an incoming tide so we knew we would float off if we touched (hopefully).

5 on board and we saw seals, dolphin/porpoises and even a sunfish.

Weather was calm with very little wind, so no sailing, the mainsail gave us a little help but not much.

By the end of the 70 mile day we were tired and in need of some food. Thats when we discovered the bilges full of water, luckily fresh, so we ripped the boat apart looking for the leak, sigh!

So the plan so far:

4th, 5th, 6th July - to wash off all the green algae and inspect the work, set up the boat with all our kit and upgrade the chart plotter.

7th July - money should transfer to seller and the boat should be ours.

8th July - relaunch back into the water and back into her berth in Burnham Marina.

10th,11th July - finish preparations in readiness for the journey from Burnham Marina.

12th July - Ty Mor will leave Burnham on Crouch - yikes!! - straight out into the scary Thames Estuary with its shfting sand bars, tidal streams,  large shipping and wind farms.

12th July - hopefully arrive in Ramsgate marina, where we will stay the night.

13th July - 2 shipmates will then jump ship and train it back to the cars in Burnham. Ty Mor with 3 remaining crew will then (wind, weather and tide permitting) hot foot it round the Portsmouth. Long stint - should take about 24 hours.

after that we are not planning, but may call in at Poole, Weymouth, Plymouth,
